Tax preparation can be a profitable business. Done incorrectly, it can also be a very costly one. This is a lesson that Kevin Mendell Walker apparently didn’t know. Walker, a 44 year old resident of Hixson, Tennessee, owns K&R Enterprises, a business specializing in the preparation and presentation of taxes.
According to the nine-count indictment returned on April 7th of this year, Walker allegedly filed nine false federal income tax returns.
The falsified information includes false education credits, false business expenses, and false hobby and investment expenses. Compounding the already criminal activity of falsifying tax return information is the fact that these actions stretched over three years, from 2009 to 2012. While he is considered innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, if Walker is convicted of preparing and filing false federal income tax returns, he may face up to three years in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000.
